Nude Girl Portrait Controversy
The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd called the cover "disgusting", which equally outraged critics. From the article:
This month's taxpayer-funded Art Monthly Australia magazine placed the photograph of the young dark-haired girl on the cover, sitting and with one nipple showing, to protest censorship of a recent photo exhibition featuring similarly naked children.
Apparently, no one mentioned to the conservative Christian PM that art doesn't equate pornography. Interestingly enough, the mother of the child, Olympia Nelson (now 11) took this portrait in 2003 and has had it in public exhibition for "some time."

Longer Still...Mini Update

Also, Jolie is no longer with us! Sad :( Hence, I am now Visual Art Society President. Awesome!
I guess I'll be posting the meeting agenda here too. But, we need to have a meeting first, before the end of the year, to do that...

After a Long Reprieve...
Hey everyone, hopefully NOW the blog will come to life. Both MEGAZINE content and blog will be presented here.
On Monday I'll be assembling MEGAZINE as well as putting that content onto the blog. Hopefully this will be effective.

Just a Note
Right now the Visual Arts Society 'blog' just serves the purpose of notifying everyone of upcoming events in and around the Lebel School of Art.
Which got us to thinking... what else could we do to enrich your viewing and reading experience.
So there's going to be some changes. Instead of just having this serve as an events calendar we will be revamping the site so that it includes more content. Comics, art work, articles of interest, reviews of the shows and lectures that we're bringing to you, event listings (here and) in the city of Windsor, and maybe a little question and answer with someone we like to call "Aunt Tracey".
This is only in the planning stage, but we hope that in its development we can get your feedback as far as what you'd like to see in this 'online magazine'. Because blogs are for the dinosaurs.
Please send said feedback, questions, comments, ideas, love letters, and/or chocolate to arrr_t@hotmail.com

Gallery Reception

Artist Maryam Yousif will be holding a reception for her show, Everything Is.
If you can't make it to the show, come out during gallery hours and have a look for yourself. The show will be up until Friday, November 16th.
